According to an extrapolation of the photo upload data reported by Facebook, the site now houses about 60 billion photos compared with Photobucket's 8 billion, 7 billion and Flickr Picasa 5 billion.

Photo organizing Facebook app Pixable has used data from a sample of 100,000 users to provide some insight into the contents of a large photo collection up.

According to the data , Weekends are the days of the most popular for uploading photos. Middle-aged users and people in their twenties upload photos number of comparable, but the older group used significantly fewer tags. Women are about twice as much upload photos of men - which may be good for everyone, as recent research suggests photos with women in it are generally preferred.

"Guys like the photo with the girls. Girls prefer a photo with the girls. Pretty much everyone would prefer a photo with the girls," explained CEO Iñaki Berenguer Pixable on a recent Sunday Social Media panel.
